Maybe this has happened to someone here as well, so I'll ask for advice on this matter.
In short, my motherboards gone down after 4 years, and I gotta re-solder something. Problem is I have no practical expertise in electronics repair, nor do I know anyone with a load of experience on the matter. Figure if I buy the kit and follow the repair guide, that'll cost at least 50 bucks, and a fuckload of time and patience I don't have.
Or I ship it out to Sony, where I won't see it til October and got to give em like 150 or whatev to fix it. I'm assuming my warranty is long since expired, but I'll check to see if I have it somewhere.
Either way, shit blows. I really don't know where to go from here, and any advice would be appreciated.

Your PS3 took a crap? Hm... I don't have a PS3 myself, and no offense to the others on this board but considering that we aren't as... numerous as some other boards, maybe you should request help elsewhere as well, 4chan's /v/ board is a good place to go.

If it's anything like the original Xbox 360's "Red Ring of Death", then you've probably got 1 of two options- send your console into Sony, and wait until October to get it back, or look around your town. Find a locally run video game trade-in shop. Not GameStop, those people wouldn't know tech support if it bit them on their CoD lanyards. Usually small video game shops know something about console problems, or know someone who could fix it close by. The latter is probably your best bet.

Best of luck, mate.

EDIT- Yeah most forums say it's best to go find a 3rd party to repair your console. Some offer warranties on the repair work, and you get YOUR console back, instead of a refurb you'll probably get back if you send it to Sony, so you'll keep all the stuff that's on your console. The forums I checked said to be aware though that on average, only 8/10 PS3's with the yellow light can be fixed. Call around, throw a "Help me find someone" add on craigslist, try and find someone local.

I'd probably just buy a new one, the cheaper redesign or something. But you could try calling up local electronics repair shops in your area.
