This thread is for all discussion of Totally Spies magazines and books. Made this thread partly so we can discuss the awesome, new scans taken by Mezoroth that have been added to the gallery. You can find them in them in the new Book and Magazine scans section of the gallery here. Discussion of future scans can also take place in this thread. Mez's scans are from a collection of stories released in 2008 that I'm assuming originated in Totally Spies magazine. The really exciting thing is they appear to be completely original! I thought all of the magazine comics were taken from previous episodes, but these match no episode I've actually seen. Pretty cool! Too bad I can't read them though. They look pretty funny. We do have a few French reading members though, so maybe they can help us understand what is going on.

Nice new danchou !!! Indeed the actual scans look really good. I didn't get enough time to see every page yet, but they seem to be very interesting. Mez-san did a really good work !! ^^

Can't you guys and galls take French classes? Otherways, I need a second life, where I'm healthy8 Syxx, send me the files and, health, internet and live willing I'll translate. It won't be easy though, there are a lot of idiioms that can't be easily translated from French to English. And I'm really in a bad shape. I'm overhere to usurp young thoughts so I can keep on going. Seems weird, but you gals and guys notes do give me a bost
Life is too short to lose the joys of cartoons, comics, manga, music, ... The joys of having an open mind! An evil wind can flare the candle of friendship, but never will it be able to douse it brightness. Thank you friends.

Seems weird, but you gals and guys notes do give me a bost I took Spanish. If I knew at the time the French had all these cool comic books and cartoons, I would have certainly taken French instead. Although, I can't remember if my high school even had French. I just remember Spanish and German. lol Are you sure you want to go to that much work to do a translation if you're not feeling well? I could send you the files as a zip. But I think just having you at the forum is cool enough imo.

QUOTE (amysorel12 @ Oct 6 2018, 10:48 PM) too bad i dont understand french... id like to read these in english, I've translated some of these for you guys. I might be able to translate more in the future, but no promises. Anyway, enjoy! Page 12 Too Hot Wow! I looooove it! So you're into books now? No, I'm talking about him—the lovely* clerk inside! Oh! I feel better already—you had us worried, there. He's so cute! *: In French, Clover says, "the little clerk," but she isn't talking about the guy's height, obviously. In this context, the word "petit" means a thing or person is cute, lovely, etc. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems the word "little" is only used with animals, babies or objects when expressing "cuteness" in English. A matter of usage rather than a rule, possibly. I can't remember reading or hearing "little guy" unless it was to point at the short height of the said guy. (It works fine for a kid, though.) Page 13 Gadget Hey, losers! Mandy... I wanted to see how you had set up your VIP apartment. / It's not really tidy. Good. Now that you've seen the living room... ...nothing's keeping you here. Wow! Your hair dryer is awesome. I want one like that! Don't touch that... It's a gadget for spies! Yeah, right... Pffft! As if! We warned her. Page 14 Badminton Here you go, Bradley! Who's this "Bradley"? Since when does she know this guy? You think Alex is in love with him? Ouch! In any case, he caught her eye!* Ha ha ha! *: "Il lui a tapé dans l'œil" is the French equivalent of "He caught her eye" (i.e., "she noticed him"), but, literally, it means "He hit her in the eye", which is exactly what happens here. A subtle difference from "catching her eye" (which works almost equally well), yet a noticeable one.

They should have made the English version of these...

Page 15 Blowing in the wind Your hair has been looking awesome recently! Yeah, I use a bit of gel after the shampoo. End of the line! Mission accomplished: we captured Johnny Bike! Mission completed: we captured Johnny Bike! J. BIKE: I'll have my revenge! Uh, Sam? Gel abuse much?* Why are you saying that? *: I thought it fitted Clover's style better, even though it's not a really accurate translation. An accurate translation would read like: "Uh, Sam? Don't you think you have exaggerated with the gel?" Page 16 (Version 1*) Mr. and Ms., encore Mission complete, Jerry: we've captured Nasty Andy. Congratulations, girls. We'll be waiting with the WOOHP team for you to come to get him. OK ... But I have a joke for you before you go. Mr. and Ms. Antha have a daughter. What's her name? Her name is Sam. Ha ha ha! Sam Antha! Mr. and Ms. Antha have a daughter ... I have a feeling poor Jerry needs some vacation. Wow ... Page 16 (Version 2*) Mr. and Ms., encore Mission complete, Jerry: we've captured Nasty Andy. Congratulations, girls. We'll be waiting with the WOOHP team for you to come to get him. OK ... But I have a joke for you before you go. Mr. and Ms. Enough have a daughter. What's her name? Her name is Aïyad. Ha ha ha! Aïyad Enough! Mr. and Ms. Enough have a daughter ... I have a feeling poor Jerry needs some vacation. Wow ... *: The joke, a play on words, is impossible to translate. In French, "Sam Suffit" sounds just like "Ça me suffit," which means "I had enough" (as in, "I had enough coffee, thanks," and not, "I had enough shut the f*** up," which would translate as, "Ça suffit"). I couldn't find a single English word sounding like "Sam" (or "Clover" or "Alex") and working the same way as in French, so I included two translations, one with "Sam" and another with "enough." Page 17 Clues Where did he go? I see nothing. Clues! We need some clues! Say, you could look, too, Clover! He has to be somewhere! But where? THERE! Found him! After him! To think we accused you of not looking. Sorry! Enjoy!
