Totally Spies Underground _ Totally Spies General Discussion _ Who Is Your Favorite Totally Spies Character? (2015 Edition)

Posted by: Syxx Jan 2 2015, 11:21 PM

I think it's time for a new thread. Plenty has happened since I started the last one including two seasons of TS and a movie (the old thread was partially migrated here from the old forum). So I'm going to make a brand new poll with new options for characters and new discussion!

As you may guess, my favorite still hasn't changed! I still love my raven haired goddess, Mandy! heart1.gif Mandy-icon.png heart1.gif There has never been and never will be another character as utterly perfect, beautiful and miraculous as her! She is the queen bitch to rule them all! devil.gif

Posted by: Stasis Muffin Jan 3 2015, 10:43 AM

I guess I should say Muffy. I mean, to see her in one episode, and leave a mark of sorts on me, just from that? That's impressive!!

When I first saw Totally Spies, my favorite was Alex. After a brief hiatus, my favorite was Clover. Then Muffy came along and I dunno, there's just something about her!

Posted by: TB74 Jan 4 2015, 04:36 AM

Sam remains my favorite but only by a hair — the gap between her and Alex and Clover used to be huge, but not anymore.

Posted by: NinjaNick101 Jan 4 2015, 06:16 AM

I will surprise you and say Sam. z01.png

Posted by: TerminalGT Jan 4 2015, 08:54 PM

It hasn't changed since last time, and it never will. clovergif.gif

Mandy or Geraldine. It's so hard to choose. *-*

Posted by: Syxx Jan 6 2015, 10:06 PM

Glad Mandy is in the lead so far.

My favorite when I began watching the show way back when was Sam but, as I get older, my favorite leans more toward Alex. And I've always had a fondness for the old spies - namely Alice and Crimson. I'm not sure why, seeing as how they were only in one episode, but they made an impression on me that's hard to shake. I guess it's because they're so much like the younger spies but still so different in their own ways.

I almost included Alice, Pam and Crimson in the poll, but they didn't get any votes last time so I left them out. I really wish Marathon would use them again! They've only appeared again in super brief cameos like at Jerry's out of control pool party at the spies' villa.

Posted by: totallyAlex Jan 11 2015, 09:51 PM

I would love to see the old spies actually team up with Alex, Sam and Clover. (For real this time.) I think it would be a pretty awesome match-up. Maybe they could get together to take out some seriously bad-bad guy.

You know, the more I re-watch the show, the more appreciation I have for Clover. I really used to dislike her a lot and, while she's not my favorite, she's definitely in my top 5 now.

Funny. I used to hate Clover because she's too much the Valley Girl. But I get used to it after some time. XDD Anyway, I still see her as the Jack of All Stats of the trio. tongue.gif

Don't get me wrong, her ability to fall in love with each and every guy she sees still grates on my nerves - especially this thing with David! I seriously hate this guy and I know that they all had a thing for him but Clover, and occasionally Sam, seem to hold onto this infatuation the longest - but I like her as a character a lot more. And she's hella funny. She's always been super funny but I just enjoy it a lot more now.

Funny how our opinions change as we get older, huh?

I agree. I like that she takes what she wants ala the Honey Badger. She doesn't have much of a conscience (ala Mandy), but I'm sure most people can relate to wanting to be like that in real life.

especially this thing with David!

I used to remember when David was ultra popular with female fans. I think his stock has kind of plummeted since then. The thing I like about David though is the subtle satire about him being an egomaniacal douche that constantly blows them off. It's supposed to frustrate you as a viewer, because here are these three beautiful girls with great personalities and spy skills, and they aren't good enough to maintain his attention.

The point of David is that he only cares about himself. His pet projects that seem like they are about activism, charity and stuff are actually about drawing attention to himself. Even when he was painting Clover and Mandy, it wasn't about them at all. It was about his pretentiousness. So in that sense, he's a good running gag/plot device. It would have been way worse if he actually liked any of the girls instead of just occasionally humoring them.

Yeah. I understand how you feel. lol Clover's Satellite Love Interest tendencies are really annoying. XD But I started to respect Clover more after seeing her as an evil spy in "Super Agent Much?". Indeed I think Clover is potentially the character of the trio who could eventually defect from WHOOP and become a villain. lol

I've toyed with this idea a lot, but unfortunately every scenario I think of puts Clover as some sort of anti-hero, a role I'm trying to steer clear of.

The other idea could be that Clover takes the Britney route and goes off on her own. I'm not sure how well that approach would be, though. Anything to avoid overdone clichés, lol.

I definitely see Clover being more an anti-hero than an out and out villain.
Unless she's just a villain toward Mandy. devil.gif That I see very clearly. laugh.gif

Possibly. Sam's high sense of morality (most of the time) would probably make her a bad candidate, and Alex values friendship a hell of a lot, more than the other two, hardly a trait of (most) anti-heroes. The anti-hero would probably work best for Clover since she likes to do things her way, and it would be interesting to see her go down that road. Though I feel the typical anti-hero role has been used a lot in recent times so I wanted to move away from that.

If each of the spies had any further character development it would have been fun to see, and guess from there. It's really too bad.

Oh man, the possibilities of an anti-hero Clover dealing with Mandy... heheheh...

Sam's motivations could probably get twisted by ideological reasoning.

I think we saw a little bit of that in the story arc with Jazzhands in Season 5. Sam could be pretty easy to manipulate, lol.

Posted by: totallyAlex Jan 30 2015, 11:30 PM

For me, Sam's always been a little easy to manipulate, whether the decision is left up to her - Evil Boyfriend - or she's brainwashed - mm...almost every episode ever. I definitely see Sam going completely rogue before I see either of the others doing so.

Posted by: TerminalGT Jan 30 2015, 11:46 PM

Would Sam make a better villain, or anti-hero? Would Clover?

Aside from her looks (biggrin.gif), I think the reason Clover's my favourite is that she's so impulsive and does what she wants or can to achieve her means. It's like putting Mandy in the hero's seat. She's almost independent, but often reality comes to smack her in the face and she falls back.

I say these things not having watched an episode for at least a few months, so take whatever I say with a grain of salt. My knowledge of the show is rusty, lol.

Posted by: totallyAlex Jan 31 2015, 12:09 AM

I think Sam would be a more believable villain and Clover, as I said before, comes across as the perfect type for an anti-hero. I see her doing things her own way for her own means and, should they be good, so be it. I don't see her ever actively becoming a villain, or even out and out doing something truly bad, but I can see her doing something questionable to suit her own interests.

Sam, on the other hand, is so easily swayed that I can see her becoming a villain convinced that she's doing the world a favor. And honestly, what villain doesn't think they're doing the world a favor?

The one who would be least easy to manipulate is Alex, becuase she thinks with her heart, not her brain! Sam on the other hand, yeah, I think can be manipulated if she is presented with evidence or arguments that saw her sense of logical thinking. Clover's downfall may be her greed, ego and self-asuredness.

It's hard to say really. When I was younger Clover was just so annoyingly shallow and obnoxious but I see other things in her character now. While her ability to constantly fall in love and her sometimes childish rivalry with Mandy still grate on my nerves, I appreciate how...real she is. She always says what she's thinking and she doesn't sugar-coat it. You have to take her as she is and if you decide not to take her at all, that's your loss. I also appreciate that she goes after what she wants and doesn't let anything stand in her way; her determination is admirable even if, more often than not, the subject of her determination isn't.

Do you think so, onii-chan? I agree about the fact that Alex doesn't use her brain to think. However, I particularly believe that if she gets attracted to some guy who actually is trying to manipule her, I think she would do everything he asks her to. XD

About Clover, most people say she would be a good Anti-Hero. That's kinda obvious for me, since she does already possess many characterisitcs compatible with such a trope. On the other hand, when I proposed that Clover would potentially be the character with high chances to become a villain, I wanted to say she is the spy who might eventually resort in questionable tactics to defeat her foes, some which might be considered in the Blue and Orange Morality territory. Of course, she would possibly need to cross the Moral Event Horizont through some painful experience in order to become a villain. I would definitely love seeing this! XD

Another option would be Clover becoming a kind of Heel-Face Revolving Door. However, it would be needed a very plausible excuse to justify her constant change of side. lol

Nah, that's more along the lines of what has happened to Sam before. Alex would begin questioning things that don't feel right immediately. She can probably be tricked, but not if it involves doing something she knows is wrong.

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with you onii-chan. First, Alex doesn't seem to fit into the Incorruptible Pure Pureness trope. In various situations (especially those in which she was being controlled), Alex has shown us signs of evilness. Of course they are much more subtle than Clover's, for instance. However, Alex is not completely absent of evilness.

Second, I remember at least one episode in which she became somewhat influenced by a certain goth boy: Creepy Crawly Much?. Okay, she didn't completely fall in love for him, but I presume that episode may be considered as an indication that Alex may sometimes be manipulated. lol

I also like that her favourite food is Chinese cuisine because that's one of my favourite foods I like to eat.

On-topic:

I thought you would go for Jerry. laugh.gif

Off-topic:

Depending on the language the word "football" may receive a sort of transliteration with the same meaning as "soccer". For example, the German word "Fußball" (Fussball) is pratically a transliteration of the English word "football", yet it stands specifically to "soccer". The same reasoning also applies for the Portuguese word "Futebol", whose meaning is also "soccer". Therefore don't worry about the actual consistency of your statement. biggrin.gif
