Well, by now, most of you already read, saw or heard the news. Robin Williams took his own life Monday, after years of chronic depression.

Sad news. sad.gif

The guy was a creative genius. He improvised a lot of his lines in many movies and was a master at improv, capable of coming up with hilarious replies on the spot, as if his brain had recorded 10 billion of these. And he was equally at ease in comedy and drama. I don't know how you guys feel about this, but for me, there's a big void now that he's gone. sad.gif

The cruel part of his death is the fact he took his own life. Depression isn't a small issue. The man was suffering, more than anyone but a few people close to him could ever imagine.

Depression is a genuine mental health issue that needs to be treated accordingly. The stupid and medieval mentalities like "Oh, he's just lazy/weak, that's why he's not coming to work — depression is so overrated" and "He should man up/she's too sensitive" are juste judgmental attitudes that won't change the real nature of depression, only make people less likely to go for help while it's still possible. Hopefully his death will help get rid of some clichés still going around about this mental condition.

Also, the great Mrs. Lauren Bacall passed away today at age 89. While her death was natural and not untimely at all, I hope it won't go unnoticed and end up being shadowed by the tragic demise of Mr. Williams. She deserves more than a couple of lines on page 17 of the newspaper. She was a great, sophisticated lady and a very talented actress, and one who had a great sense of humor, too.

Cinema lost two of its great icons.
