PlayStation fans will be delighted in seeing PlayStation Vita:

Sony has officially announced the release of its PSP successor, the PlayStation Vita, formerly known as the NGP. Screenshots:

The new handheld will be released at the end of 2011, priced at a distinctly reasonable (for Americans at least) $249/€249/¥24980 for the standard wifi model and $299/€299/¥29980 for the 3G/wifi model, which requires the usual exploitative data plan.

The launch titles:

QUOTE

PS Vita's launch lineup is a force to be reckoned with, featuring exciting and attractive new titles from SCE Worldwide Studios, including UNCHARTED: Golden Abyss, LittleBigPlanet, and Ruin (working title), which utilize PS Vita's groundbreaking technology to make unprecedented immersive, interactive and social game play available on-the-go.

In addition, titles such as Little Deviants, Hot Shots Golf, Reality Fighter, Hustle Kings, ModNation Racers, Wipeout, Super Stardust Delta and a broad range of third-party game developers and publishers make use of PS Vita's unique feature set.

The wildly optimistic trailers and preview footage:

Sony further promises new ways of having personal information stolen whilst being stalked in public, by way of its "LiveArea" system:

QUOTE
Further enhancing your entertainment experience are new PS Vita features, such as "LiveArea," an interactive space for each PS Vita software title that allows you to access the latest game information through PlayStation Network; "near," a pre-installed application that lets you see what other PS Vita users in the vicinity are playing; "Party," which lets you voice chat or text chat while playing games or using the Internet browser; and "Welcome Park," a tutorial application designed specifically to guide you through PS Vita's new user interface.

The future of the 3DS suddenly looks distinctly troubled…

Even though PlayStation Vita looks promising, it is necessary to remember that in its previous announcement many questions were raised about its possibly limited battery lifetime. If Vita is able to avoid such a problems, which haunted 3DS too, it may eventually be inferred that Sony will ba safe from all critics about the recent issues concerning hackers...

The PSN buisiness has no association with the PS Vita. Real Playstation fans will still buy the Vita, mainly because of it's wonderful lineup of games (As all Sony consoles have). The only reason the 3Ds was not successful was because of it's awful release lineup. I have confidence in the PS Vita, and if I had the money, I would honestly get one.

Even though the events concerning hackers do not have in principle a direct connection with the Vita, the actual announcement will surely be intepreted by many as a way for Sony to recover from those critics. It is unavoidable thinking such a thing.

Anyway I am really glad to see this new platform. It seems to be promising. I will surely get one.

Does this Vita...have "RIDGE RACER! RIIIIIIIIDGE RACER!"?

Yeah, I'm not going to hold the PSN debacle against them for this sort of thing. The PSP was (and still is) the one handheld that really held a candle to the Game Boy dynasty (maybe even surpassing it. I'll let handheld afficionados make that call), and this new system looks like a play from the GameBoy's book of innovating while keeping familiar design and accessibility.

However, the code name is a little confusing as there is another handheld I think of with NGP.

If CyberConnect2 remake .hack//LINK for the Vita, I'll consider it. Just like the only reason I'll get the 3DS is if Paper Mario 3DS ever becomes reality. I'm not big on portable consoles anymore.

Can't we just be selfish for one more day...

Nintendo announced that Mario Kart and Super Mario 3D was going to be comming to the console by the holiday season, as well as Star Fox and a Legend of Zelda remake in 3D (Majora's mask I think).
