I like Hip Hop. And quality hip hop, not the corny trash that goes by that name these days. There's not a lot non-hip hop stuff I like, but a few can name are Daft Punk, At the Drive In, and certain scores like the one for Revolutionary Girl Utena and the movie scores by Goblin. |

My fave types are mostly rock music: 80s-90s (alternative), heavy metal (i.e. Metallica, Butthole surfers, Gwar, Nirvana and Rush) and soft rock bands or artists. I also like some rap, old school and hip-hop types (i.e. Snoop Doggy Dogg), easy listening and Latin dance songs, but not alot despite I live in southern Cal. I went to a few amateur or indie rock concerts ("striaght edge") in my community, which is fun with a smaller crowd and not as expensive. Note the straight edge genre's message is staying away from drugs, drinking or risky behavior, but the bands rock hard as they get a "natural high" by singing or dancing their asses off!

Metal, nothing even comes close to metal! Have some guy screaming through your head phones and all the pain just fades away (god I sound like such an emo! ) But seriously Linkin Park and Nightwish are the best bands ever to grace the earth!

I have never been able to relate to metal. Even when I was like 4, I was like "this stuff sucks." Only rock I can really listen to is 60's groups like the Doors or Cream. Pop music I haven't been able to stand since some point in the mid 90's. It just became unlistenable. I think the pop of the 80's and early 90's was vastly superior sound wise. |

Jsyxx, today's pop music is lame and cheesy...and most songs regardless of artist or band sound too much alike. What happened to originality? It's the corporations and record companies...that's what! Music should have no limits, a great form of expression and throughout history, music was a very liberal art. But not anymore...It isn't hard to recognize more rock, pop & hip-hop are softer, weaker or blend. Like the old saying: "even a blind man can see". (no offense).

And that's why I love "An Idiots Guide To Dreaming" and all the times WFMU's Beware of the Blog visited the "Nurse With Wound List". Sure, not many will love the bizzare underground stuff, but at least someone's posting it, and not letting it be forgotten. Also, best year for music was sometime between 1982-1984. That's when all the good stuff came out. |
