Let's just start a new thread. Post links to music videos you like or think are just cool. I just enabled doHTML tags in this forum, so if you want to embed a video, put it between tags that use doHTML in place of things like img or quote. I'll start with a new video from Percee P, Put it on the Line. It's from his first album from a near 30 year career, produced by Madlib, that will come out in 5 days from Stones Throw records. I'm fucking psyched. As for the video, not only is the song fire, but I like the concept of using clips from the Bronx circa 1979, which of course was where and when hip hop was born. Falco's "Sound Of Musik" circa...eh 1987. A really....ummmm...weird video for this song that's not quite anything. Falco's fun to watch, even if he is a shit rapper. If you can call that rapping. He throws in some refrences to old-school hip-hop. Odd, it means a "music video" which is where the artist goes and performs their song to a video to go with it, like Carrie Underwood I posted above "Wasted" was a music video, but "So Small" wasn't

Yeah, the music videos should be in video form. Also, I made a mistake. Percee P has been rapping for almost 30 years. He started in 1979, which would make him probably the earliest rapper still in the game. |

Best video ever? Or best video ever? Anyways, Herbie Hancock's "Rockit". Songs a bit overdone in terms of how many times it's brought up in electro/hip-hop circles, but it's still FUCKING AMAZING. It introduced us white people to scratching as a form of music. I'll let R2BCH at youtube describe how great the song is:
Blew me away when I first heard it. Fun Fact: Despite not being in the video for a lot of time, this may just be the first video played on MTV by a african-american musician. Video is basically a bunch of early 80s robots shaking and convulsing. It's kinda nightmarish, but really cool too. I enjoyed viewing some of the video clips (i.e. "Sound of music", "wasted" and "plastic world"). Too bad my lousy computer (I wonder I still got a receipt or have my bro take a look at it) has trouble downloading video clips, so I can't post 'em. I can rate Sound of Music a 8/10, Wasted a 6/10 and Plastic world is a 2/10 (sorry...Kool Keith doesn't deserve that level of rating). Tril, I attended a middle school where they played 1980's hip-hop records (this was 1993) in afterschool dance jams. It felt "ghetto"- when gang 'wannabes' (i.e. baggy pants and shirts had gothic letters to identify a gang) danced to that stuff. My school was in a mainly blue-collar (lots of poor kids came to school, others in gang attire) and Latino neighborhood, but I didn't give a care since I was 13. |
