There was a review in the NYTimes about Soulja Boy and they said the album reminded them of the good ol' days of rap, when beats were simple and rhymes were witty.

Translation, they don't know the good ol' days of rap from their assholes. If this guy tried to come out in 1982 he would've been dissed by everyone and their mother. He is not in the leagues of people like Melle Mel, Kurtis Blow, Whodini or whoever else was out then. Comparing that kind of delivery and production to each other is an insult to hip hop's roots. It just amazes how much these shitty rags worship this crap music. They must be in cahootz or something. I remember months before Nelly came out I read about his wack ass being the future in Newsweek, of all fucking places.

Yeah totally, I don't even like rap music all that much and I still think he insults it <_<

After Gamefaqs made that Chris Benoit joke? NEVER. The song's now officially in the "Hilarious In-Joke" catagory.

....I'm almost afraid to ask. :lmao:

One of the others was catchy, but I didn't know if I should shell out a buck for the other 3 minutes of it. <_<

Alright, someone made this topic with all these complicated details about the murder and finally asked the question "But who let the dogs out into the yard?" (Google case info).

Second post: The Baha Men.

IT WAS WIN.

On one song he get's Fs on his report card and tells his teacher to "Throw some Ds on it", which is probably the highlight of his entire career.

Yeah, that's probably what happened. Some A&R probably was looking for some more dirty south bullshit, heard his mp3, and instant profit. Rinse and repeat.

A&R: Hey...you know who'd like this? Suburban white girls!

It's their fault stuff like this and "Ay Bay Bay" is popular. I've heard this stuff blasted from cars at my college.

Who's driving? White suburban girls.

True, but black people like this song too. It's definitely a mix of both races which has lead to the development of hip hop becoming the music industry's whore.

Yeah, there's a couple black kids in my algebra class that I hear them kind of singing the Soulja Boy song to each other, and then going "No, that's not how the dance goes... let me show you" "No, you have to put your left foot over on the side..." etc. - they're annoying :pif: Like anyone cares if you do the DUMB dance anyways? Gee

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

Any song with it's own dance is gonna suck.

"Macarena"? Sucks. "Achy Breaky Heart"? Sucks. "Walk Like an Egyptian"? Sucks.

Well except for the Humpty Hump. The dance is easy too, all you have to do is act like MC Hammer on crack. XD

There's some new issue for some 'zine that popped up in the last few days with SouljaBoy and 2 others on the cover with the blurb "Future of Hip-Hop?" on there. Need to look at it again tommorrow to remember the other guys on there, but it was...well, quite "le sigh" to see it there. <_<

Well, "The Source" has him, Hurricane Chris (sucks) and some dude called Mr. Collipark who I've NEVER heard of on it.

Gah...if this is the future, then I weep for it.

Hey...if you think "who let the dogs out" is horrible (actually the dance version isn't bad, not the original caribbean sound)...does anyone like "whoop...there it is!" from the early 90s? This song made most of my friends cringe :><: or cover their ears...in horror. And "purple haze" is useful in torture sessions :unknown: instead of waterboarding: "purple haze...I really, really like you...ay ay ay AY AY!"

I took my time to listen to nearly all the XM 100 worst songs ever list: "we built this city" by Jefferson Starship is the ultimate worst! But "the girl next door" was on the list...and I loved that song. :hmm: If you wanna listen to the worst song ever in the history of music, how about "and this song never ends" by Sheri Lewis with her puppet, Lamb chop..."and it goes on and on, my friend". :holyshit:

"The Sauce" has been a joke since Benzino, who's probably only slightly better than Soulja Boy, bought it and fired all the writers. Formerly, "hip hop's Bible" it's basically now an advertisement catalog only good for glossy toilet paper. Anything they say now has basically zero credibility with hip hop heads.

Nice story to share, MNMR. B) Anyone who grew up in cities or metro areas in let's say New York, Detroit, Kansas City, Atlanta, D.C. & L.A. (to name a few), you have wide contact with other races and these cities have large black populations. But most affluent/upper-class neighborhoods even today appear segregated...or small numbers of black people (and in the west, less Hispanics) live in them.

I grew up attending a variety of schools as a special ed. student, I was easily exposed to hip-hop, R&B and rap (the southern and western ends of Indio Cal. are black areas) as well Latino music since they are the town's ethnic majority. When I was 10 or 11, I came in contact with a few black, Latino and white kids dressed like out of a rap video (backward shirts, gold chains, beltless pants and nike sneakers) and were scrawling what it looks like gang-graffiti...aaahhh 1991..."those are the days."

What helped rap and hip-hop in the '80s was it had to sale to a white suburban audience whom wanna rebel against their often conservative parents who worried about the music was corrupting or negative. My parents aren't afraid nor ignorant to that or other races, as well the 1980s & 90s wasn't like the 1950s when rock music first came out in a time of racial friction (the original "rockabilly" sound and soul from black artists).

Rap sells because people like to jive there heads to a "Beat" in there car n such, and many like it because it often promotes foul language

Trust me, you will see people jive to Rap or Hip-Hop music in their cars; but try to find someone jiving to Classical music XD it's just that ppl like things for its feel-good beat and ignore the fact that it really SUCKS :p

^ The beats of the music that sells records now aren't even good. Aside for a few individuals like Just Blaze and a few others, I refuse to listen to it. I'd rather go back to something made by Prince Paul or the RZA over 15 years ago. Listen to that and you will hear something good. If it's for recent stuff, you have to go underground to independent labels to people like Madlib and El-P, who still respect the craft and are progressing the sound in legitimate ways and aren't doing just what sells good.

Don't get a bad opinion on rap because of today's bs music. The whole thing was basically stolen out of the hands of the people who loved it most and made into some perverse bastardization to make money. Hating hip hop because of today's pop music version of it, would be like telling someone that punk sucks because you don't like emo-pop bands.

As for jiving to rap in your car, I take it a step further and actually repeat the lyrics. It's especially bad for Leaders of the New School, who do a bunch of group chanting during random points in the songs. I really wish there were more albums like that. :lmao:

The latter has becoming my "Straightening/Facing shit in the coolers" song. :D It always comes on when I'm pulling outdated milk and fixing the sodas. Since this is usually at the end of a shift, I'm stoked enough to bark out the beats and lyrics as I go. If I'm in the playlist I made for the inevitable "TS-GTA clone" I'll end up doing one day ( ), then song is Bambaataa's "Who do you think you're funking with?"
It's good fun. ^^

Keeping it to good rap, I'm torn between learning "Body Rock" and "The Breaks" next. Either can get me from work to Burger King at break time.

For those not sick of "Soulja Boy" (there's gotta be like, someone out there right?) Noz over at Cocaine Blunts put up links to "Crank Dat Trendwatch Volumes 1 and 2".

Basically, compilations with all those knock offs with "Crank Dat _____".

Sadly missing, "Crank That (Kosher Boy)":

Soulja Boy still sucks. Half of it makes NO sense. What the shit is "crank that Roosevelt"?

But when it's combined with Barney...something clicks and makes things quite funny.
